yoga for back care
Do you suffer from neck or back pain? In modern society our back and neck are under constant pressure from prolonged sitting or staring (with bowed heads) at our mobile devices. As our posture slowly deteriorates, we see an increase in premature wear and tear on the spine and higher frequency of hernias of the lower back & neck.
But back and neck pain are not the only symptoms of poor posture. Headaches, fatigue, breathing problems, depression and anxiety are all symptoms strongly related to incorrect postural alignment. By improving our posture, a wide range of health problems can be avoided or resolved. We will breathe better, become more energetic, and feel a greater sense of wellbeing.
What is Yoga for Back Care and who can benefit from it?
Yoga is commonly acknowledged as a gentle healing modality to help prevent or relieve back and neck pain, but many stronger yoga practices can aggravate spinal injuries if not taught or practiced with care and attention. Our specialised Yoga for Back Care classes are designed for anyone seeking a therapeutic yoga class to support spinal health, relieve back or neck pain and improve posture.
Through gentle breathing exercises, yoga postures, and BackMitra® sequences you will unravel tension in your spine, cultivate core and pelvic stability and bring space to your whole body, supporting you to move with greater ease. Whether you are completely new to yoga or an experienced practitioner you will rediscover your spine.
What is the BackMitra®?
SoHo Yoga was the first yoga studio in Australia to introduce the BackMitra® as a therapeutic tool to support your yoga practice. Many yoga classes use props such as bolsters and blocks to help align the spine, but the BackMitra® - developed and manufactured in Europe - is a highly engineered foam rubber strip designed specifically to apply gentle, passive pressure on the spine to help improve posture, flexibility & stability.
Exercising on the BackMitra® is also a powerful way to increase breath capacity, promote blood circulation and elicit a profound relaxation response. With regular practice, Yoga for Back Care classes are an effective way to reduce stress as the parasympathetic nervous system is reset, and improve mobility as the muscular-skeletal system becomes functional again.
Where can I practice Yoga for Back Care in Brisbane?
Yoga for back care is offered on Tuesday and Sunday afternoons at our beautiful SoHo Yoga studio in Grange, Brisbane. Our Yoga for Back Care classes are taught by highly experienced teachers who have been trained and certified to use the BackMitra® in a therapeutic yoga class setting.
