Sthira and Sukha - The Balance of Effort and Ease with Miriam

  • SoHo Yoga 16 Blandford Street Grange, QLD, 4051 Australia (map)

“When an asana is done correctly, the body movements are smooth, there is lightness in the body, and freedom in the mind.”  B.K.S. Iyengar

The quality of our relaxation (savasana) is a direct reflection of the quality of our yoga practice (sadhana). A practice that is steeped in steadiness, firmly engaging the mind and the body and grounded with intention and the fullness of the present moment, is what we call Sthira.

This steadiness, when coupled with the flow of one’s breath, taking a comfortable seat in our own skin and finally surrendering to the now, gives way to a feeling of lightness, ease and joy, known as Sukham.

In this workshop we will take a closer look at Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 2:46, “Sthira Sukham Asanam”. This constant exploration between Sthira and Sukha in our asana / yoga postures, as with all things, impacts our daily life.

Asana teaches us to strengthen areas of weakness, shed light on places unlit and relax areas of contraction. It encourages us to practise acceptance, allowing things to just ‘BE’ and teaches us to cultivate balance in our life – to live with contentment and ease.

Miriam will guide you through an explorative VinYin yoga practice, integrating breath and mindfulness, stability with ease, dignity with grace, and finishing with a deeply relaxing  Yoga Nidra practice, leaving you balanced, peaceful and filled with bliss.
